Dinner Starts Here

Meat remains a familiar part of everyday Swedish cooking, but today’s dinner table looks very different from the one our grandparents knew. Minced meat, chicken, pork and sausages share the kitchen with game, while flavours and cooking styles from around the world have become completely ordinary parts of Swedish home cooking.

Weeknight meat dishes tend to be practical and adaptable: casseroles that look after themselves, quick things from the frying pan, mince stretched into several meals and dishes designed to make good use of leftovers. In many parts of Sweden, locally hunted game such as moose and deer also goes straight from the forest into the family freezer.

Here you’ll find the meat and game dishes we cook on ordinary days – comforting family favourites, quick dinners, hearty casseroles and recipes that have simply become part of the modern Swedish kitchen.
